Who Are We…
Boise State University (BSU) Emergency Management (BSUEM), a division of the
University Security Department, is the university department responsible for disaster
preparedness. BSUEM works closely with university departments and with local, state,
and federal agencies to help the university mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover
from disasters and emergencies that occur on campus.
What We Do…
The primary goal of BSUEM is to protect lives and property on the campus of Boise State University. Some
of the most important tasks include:
- Identify hazards and risks that may affect students, staff, faculty, and campus visitors.
- Develop campus emergency response plans that address roles and responsibilities during emergencies and disasters.
- Ensure coordination and communication with BSU departments and between local, state, and federal agencies.
- Provide education, training, and information on personal safety, disaster preparedness, and hazards on campus.
Mission Statement…
The mission of Boise State University Emergency Management (BSUEM) is to mitigate, prepare for, respond to and
recover from disasters and emergencies that occur on campus. BSUEM shall identify potential hazards and
vulnerabilities affecting Boise State University; prepare, keep current and distribute campus emergency
response plans; coordinate resources before, during and after an emergency; coordinate emergency management
with university departments, and with local, state, and federal agencies, specifically including warnings,
communication, planning, training, education, and disaster exercising. In addition, BSUEM shall be
responsible for providing the coordination and control of emergency operations as may be deemed necessary
by the university president.
